Curiosity Corner Preschool

You want your child to have the best start to their school years, and that is why we  are here to help prepare your child for their K-12 educational journey! A quality preschool experience at Curiosity Corner will  give your child a head start to being successful in school.  Curiosity Corner offers programs for children 2 1/2 through 5 years old.  Enrollment begins in March.

In the end, It's a good beginning that counts!

We believe families help to make a difference in educational achievement, therefore, we require each family to volunteer in our Little Explore's and 3's classes about 6 to 7 times during the school year.  Your help, keeps tuition rates low and gives you a wonderful opportunity to learn more about your child's class. Our 4's program, encourages parent participation, but it is not a requirement for the school year, as we have two teachers in each classroom.

Experienced caring teachers provide age appropriate curriculum that support our school district's kindergarten programs.

Sharing, cooperating, taking turns, and learning self-help skills are so important for school success! At our preschool, your child will build confidence and social skills through  free play, games, outdoor play, songs, art, science, math and so much more.

You may also bring younger siblings to one of our 2 weekly playgroups  (see TOTS Program) while your preschooler attends class. They will make new friends and build social skills, to help prepare them for preschool. Visit us soon in the Runciman building! We look forward to meeting your family!

Parent Information

What if I don’t have my child’s official birth certificate?
An official birth certificate may be obtained from the county clerk’s office in the county your child was born. Families with a child born in Kent County can order online through External LinkAccessKent.  Please allow sufficient time for your request to be processed. An official certificate is required to attend preschool.

How many students are in the preschool classes?
Our Little Explorers classroom have 1 to 2 teachers, and one family volunteer with no more than ten students.

Our three-year-old classrooms have one teacher, one family volunteer and no more than fifteen students per class (from September – November, two family volunteers are scheduled). Our four-year-old classrooms will have two teachers, and no more than twenty students per class.

What will my child learn in preschool?
All preschool programs have a core curriculum that focuses on academic, social, emotional, and physical development of each individual child. Our programs are linked to local and state school readiness expectations.

Are there parent-teacher conferences?
We welcome communication with your child’s teacher at any time during the school year! Formal conferences are not scheduled for 3’s, but families will receive information about their child’s progress at the end of the school year. For the 4’s program, there will be a phone conference in the fall and then a formal conference in the spring. All 3’s and 4’s families will receive a preschool progress report at the end of the school year.

What supplies are needed for preschool?
Each child should bring a bag or backpack with his/her name written on the inside. Each child will also need to bring an extra set of old clothes in a baggie with their name on it to leave at school. The clothes will be returned in the spring. Although we don’t ask for parents to purchase markers, glue sticks or classrooms needs, donations are always appreciated!

Are refunds available?
We are unable to give refunds for vacation or illness. Registration fees are non-refundable.

How do I drop off and pick up my child for class?
Little Explorer’s DROP OFF and pick up in between the set of double doors.

3’s and 4’s DROP OFF: Please line up in vehicles by the Curiosity Corner Sign in the parking lot no earlier than 8:50 for 4’s and 9:10 for 3’s. Teachers will get your child out of the car and take them to the playground. Please have your child FULLY dressed and ready for outdoor play. Using the restroom right before you come to school is a must.

PICK UP: Please wait in between the set of double doors for pick-up. It is helpful to always have your photo ID, in case there is a sub. If there is someone else picking up, please send in a note with the date and your signature of the person picking up. Please remember that a picture ID/driver’s license must be with the adult before we will release a child.

Are there any special clothes my child will need for class?
Preschool clothing should be comfortable and washable. Pull-up slacks are easier for children just newly potty trained. We ask that children wear closed-toe shoes for active play. Clothing that will be removed such as hats, mittens, and coats should be labeled with the child’s name.
